How to Respond to Children in Crisis: For Educators and Parents

Join us for an engaging online workshop for parents, educators, and those who work with families as we provide training in the basics of crisis intervention for children and teens. This webinar is intended to be a comprehensive guide to help equip parents and educators with the knowledge and tools to effectively support children after experiencing a disaster, using a trauma-informed approach that includes understanding the polyvagal theory. Topics to be covered: Understanding Trauma Traumatic Stress in Children Introduction to the Polyvagal Theory Recognizing Trauma Reactions Practical Trauma-Sensitive Strategies for Support Communicating with Children about Disaster Self -care for the caregiver. Who Should Attend: Teachers/Educators Administrators Social workers Parents Anyone who cares for children or works in children support services Faith and community leaders who work with children ministry

Stacey D. Sutherland LPC-A, CIC-CSp

Stacey is a native of Abingdon, VA, a crisis intervention specialist and a licensed professional counselor -associate (LPC-A) in SC. She works for the SC Dept of Mental Health and their Mobile Crisis Response Team. She brings over 20 years of experience in the non-profit and humanitarian aid communities to her work in trauma recovery. Stacey has served in over 25 countries in disaster and crisis response including the US, Liberia, Mozambique, Dominica, Haiti, Ukraine, and Morocco.Stacey also serves as Executive Director for the non-profit Crisis Care International.
