We met Selma after a devastating earthquake. She and her family survived, but she couldn't stop thinking of that terrifying night. In her fear, Selma froze. Her brother had to drag her downstairs and outside before the house collapsed. Even now she struggles to sleep. Every day she worries that another earthquake could happen. Her hands shake for no reason. She feels ashamed and doesn't understand these reactions or how to get better.
The mission of Crisis Care International is not only to provide psychological trauma care and debriefing for people like Selma and her family, but also to offer longer-term community support in the form of small groups, workshops, and training. We teach the basics of trauma-sensitive care and psychological first aid so that people understand their own trauma reactions and also how to care well for others.
